Neurological screenings are important during a complete physical examination, or if there is any reason to think there may be an underlying problem in an individual. 

Nervous system disorders and mental health disorders may have similar symptoms, and some behavioral symptoms can be signs of a nervous system disorder. Damage to the nervous system can cause problems in daily functioning. Specialized imaging methods can visualize changes in brain activity or the levels of particular brain chemicals. 

A neurological screening assesses motor and sensory skills, hearing and speech, vision, coordination, and balance. It also tests mental status, mood, and behavior.
