FIRST RESPONDERS MASSAGE THERAPY – Dr Robin Kroll

Stress relief, reducing depression and anxiety, and improving overall well-being are all outcomes that massage therapy may provide to First Responder clients. Studies have shown that massage therapy can be a powerful healing tool for First Responders. A 2012 study focusing on how integrative therapies can help veterans found that those who received massage therapy reported significant reductions in physical pain, anxiety/depression, tension, and irritability. Research also indicates that massage therapy may also be effective for individuals who experience symptoms of PTSD, allowing them to ascertain a more coherent sense of self. Massage therapy sessions can also provide First Responders with self-care strategies to help prolong the positive effects achieved by teaching them safe and effective ways of stress management.

From intake to the massage therapy session to the end of the session, communication and expectations are critical: The client is in control of everything, from the darkness of the room, how much pressure is used, and what areas of the body are touched. First Responders – especially those living with trauma – need compassion, care, and a willingness to work at their pace. Our therapists ensure safety and protect our clients from experiencing intrusive symptoms of trauma.
