ADD & Cognition Issues – Dr Robin Kroll

Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) is also called Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), is a neurological disorder that causes a range of behavioral  problems that include trouble focusing, following instructions, and completing tasks, as well as issues with impulse control and social interactions. Affecting both children and adults

ADD is generally characterized by the following behavioral issues:

Symptoms for ADHD in adults include disorganization, forgetfulness, and a sense of overwhelm at life’s responsibilities. In adults, ADHD is commonly experienced alongside other disorders; studies have shown that adults with ADHD are approximately six times more likely to have a coinciding mental health condition.

  • ADD and ADHD are manageable with treatment options including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which is supported by clinical results and evidence evidence indicating that the therapy can lead to higher self-esteem, productivity, and happiness. CBT aims to change irrational thought patterns, develop stronger executive functioning skills, and teach the brain to use more efficient pathways that allow individuals to improve their daily life struggles (i.e. procrastination and time management).
